What we know to be clear and certain in Scripture regarding marriage

  1. God created us male and female, unique in gender

  2. God established the divine institution of marriage

  3. God defined marriage as a sacred, lifelong union between one man and one woman

  4. Sex is a gift from God, given to be enjoyed within a marriage by a husband and wife

  5. Sex forever unites two individuals as one flesh

What we know to be clear and certain in Scripture regarding divorce

  1. Divorce is never God’s desire for marriage

  2. Divorce is not commanded by God, but is allowed by God because of our sin

  3. God’s desire is for repentance of sin and restoration of the marriage

  4. Divorce is permissible in the case of sexual immorality

  5. Divorce and remarriage are permissible when the marriage covenant has been broken
