Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.” (Matthew 5:9)

We avoid conflict by pretending it does not exist

  • We pretend by failing to address conflict

  • We pretend by covering up conflict

  • We pretend by rejecting the presence of conflict

We avoid conflict by preventing it from occurring

  • We passively prevent conflict by trying to appease everyone

  • We aggressively prevent conflict by threatening conflict

We pursue peace as peacemakers by

  • acknowledging conflict

  • addressing conflict

Where in your life are you seeking to avoid conflict rather than addressing it - either internal, relational organizational, or cultural conflict? What underlying fear is motivating you and preventing you from pursuing peace?
