Becca Wells: January Update
Happy New Year! Hoping that 2021 has started off well for you and your family. It's been a slow start here in West Chicago, we've just recently got going with indoor training, but in spite of the delay it's been a good month!
2020 Recap
Watch below to see a recap of all things Eagles from 2020!
Futsal... Finally!
When we returned to the office the first week of January, we were bummed to learn that indoor training was still not an option with the COVID restrictions for our county. So we planned to brave the cold and continue to practice outside, but then snow came...and ice. The turf field we train on was a skating rink, and so practices had to be cancelled until the field could be cleared.
Last week we finally got the go ahead to transition inside for winter training! We are practicing in the gym at the school where we practiced outside as well as at a nearby church. The Lord really showed up in providing these space for us and our girls and we are excited to see what the winter holds for us.
Currently I'm getting to help with both our U15 and U19 girls teams and both are practicing two times a week. We have also been starting our practices with a short devotional and the girls have really seemed to enjoy that time.
College Practices
Prior to Christmas we had begun offering a training session for local college players who were home for break. We had really good turn out for these sessions and it was fun to help train and play again with players at this level. A few girls from TIU even came out and so it was really nice to see them and play together again.
When we started up again in January some players were still around, so we continued to to offer these sessions. These continued until last week when we said "goodbye" to our last four college players.
It was great to get to learn from the coaches that were running these sessions, and to get to jump in and play a bit. Last week I even got to run one of the session, it was a blast!
Futsal, Recruiting, and More
This weekend we will be traveling with our U19 girls to Indiana Wesleyan University to play in a futsal tournament. Our girls are beyond excited to get to play again, and us coaches are pretty excited too!
Recruiting for the Summer Academy is going really well, and we are slowly but surely filling up our roster spots for the summer. This week and next we have a few Zoom calls with teams and I am hope to be able to share this weekend with the IWU players.
Prayer Requests:
Praise for another month of safety and good health for our players
Praise for less intense and less frequent migraines
Praise for safe travels and time with family over the holidays
Praise that many of our students have transitioned back to in-person learning or are now doing hybrid learning
Pray for my grandpa as he has been having some health issues
Pray for safe travels and a fun weekend with our HS girls at IWU
Pray for the colleges and players we will be connecting with about the Summer Academy and that the Lord would give them wisdom on how to spend their summer
