Becca Wells: February Update

February was a cold and snowy month here in West Chicago. We're super grateful for our indoor space and for the ability to still train even when it feels like negative twenty outside. February has been a month of V-Day Celebrations, SA recruiting visits, visits from friends, decision-making, and of course... lots of soccer.

IWU Trip

The last weekend of January we took a group of our HS girls to a friendly tournament at Indiana Wesleyan University. Three and a half hours in a van with eight high school was quite the experience! After a fall of no matches, it was such a blast to finally see our girls play and to get to coach a little in game-like situations. Turns out the months of practices payed off--our girls went undefeated!

The trip to Indiana was supposed to be a day trip, just out and back on Saturday. We had been watching the radar all day and knew snow was coming, but by the time the games ended snow was already covering the roads and seemed to not be letting up. We ended up deciding to stay the night in Indiana. After an emergency trip to Walmart for toothbrushes and other essentials, we made it back safely to the IWU coaches' home where they graciously let us stay for the night.

Sunday afternoon we made it back to West Chicago. It was wild weekend, but it was really nice spending quality time with the girls and watching them play the game they love.

Summer Academy Recruiting Continues...

Recruiting for Summer Academy is slowly wrapping up. Our men's team is nearly full and we just have a handful of spots left on the women's side. The second week of February we took a trip up to Deerfield to share with the TIU men's team and visit with a few of the girls who are committed for the summer. It's always a blast being back at Trinity and it was so good seeing some of my old coaches and catching up with them.

We are thankful for God's provisions so far for the upcoming summer, and excited to get to know the players that He's sending our way. Join us in praying for these college players, those that are already committed and the final few as they decide to apply and trust God's guidance as they explore how to spend their summer.

Gal-entine's Bash

Friday before Valentine's Day we hosted a Gal-entine's hangout for our high school girls. We had food and made cookies and just enjoyed an evening of hanging out and being together.

So many of our high school girls are wrapping up their senior year and are looking into college and what's next after this season of life comes to close. It's been fun getting to hear their exciting plans for the future, and also getting to share my thoughts on college, as that's a chapter that I myself just wrapped up several months ago.

Time with Friends

February also held lots of quality time with friends. The beginning of the month I went up to Wisconsin to visit with some good friends from college and catch up on their lives post-marriage (they both recently got married, nothing to exciting for me in that department haha). I love how I can just jump back in with them and it feels like no time has passed between us. It was such a fun weekend and I'm really hoping to get back up and visit them again soon.

I also got to spend some time with a group of my soccer friends from TIU when they came to my apartment to celebrate one of their birthdays. It was such a fun night hosting them. We ate pizza and played games and just enjoyed being together.

This past weekend I had a friend fly up from Florida to visit. She was a friend that I met through the Summer Academy in '19 and we have stayed close over the past few years. She recently started coaching as an assistant for a college in Florida, so it was really good catching up with her and hearing all the ups and downs of her first season coaching collegiately, and just hearing how the Lord is growing her in this season of life.

What's Next?

February has also been a month of praying and thinking about what comes next for me after this Residency experience comes to close. Sometime in January I had a meeting with the office directors and they shared their thoughts on my future with the Eagles. Long story short, they really would love for me to stay and continue working with them.

It was very exciting and encouraging to hear their thoughts on how I've been doing as a coach and on the ways I've been contributing in the office to our other programs like the Summer Academy. I got to share with them a few ideas of where I see myself if I stay and got to hear how they see me fitting in to the work that God is doing here in West Chicago.

Of course this is a big decision to make, and so I really am trying to explore other options and be wise in how to move forward. If you think of it, could you join me in praying for guidance as I continue to make some big decisions about my future?
