Anchor Church: That gave me freedom...
That gave me freedom…
Last week, Nick was debriefing with one of group leaders, Louise, about how our Thursday night group went in January. One of the questions he asked was: how are people feeling connected? Louise said “You said last month that, as a group leader, I’m like a pastor to this group. And that stuck with me. It gave me freedom to text people, to check in, and to care for them as a pastor.”
One of the members of the group had surgery for breast cancer recently. Louise decided to ask if anyone in the group would like to give to put together a gift basket for her. Everyone in the group gave something right then and there and we were able to give her $100 in gift cards and some other goodies.
This was a win for a few reasons:
Louise felt comfortable enough to lead people to give.
The people in the group responded to her leadership with
generosity and thus blessed this woman immensely.
Nick & I had basically nothing to do with it. This is the first time that something like this happened organically. One of the most important things we can do as leaders of this church is empower others to live out their faith and lead to others to do so too.
So what about you? Who do you need to check in or care for this week? Is there someone in your life that could use some encouragement or even a gift basket full of goodies?
Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up. Romans 15:2
Prayer Requests
Pray that our group leaders would take ownership like Louise did this month.
Pray for wisdom as we decide when we should be back in person again.
Pray for favor with our community and that people would see Anchor Church as a blessing.
Pray for opportunities to serve Champaign-Urbana during our “Love Week” in March.
Pray for those in our groups/church that don’t know Jesus yet.
Pray for the people we are discipling one on one. Pray that those individuals would start to disciple others.
Pray for our worship team, as our worship intern, Michael, steps away in April. He’s moving to New Mexico to begin his career as a Public Defender. We’re very sad to see him go but we’re also excited about what the future has in store.
Thanking God for you always,
Hannah & Nick
