Sunday Story Time

Each Sunday we have a story time, discussion time, worship time, and close by recapping the lesson.

Story Time

Start by reading this week’s lesson to your children, or by having them read it to you. Then watch this week’s lesson video.

Read the Passage: Job 1 (ESV)

If you’re looking for the story in one of the many incredible children’s Bibles, check these out:

Watch the Video: Check out this morning’s lesson from Pastor Robin as he shares about Job.

Discussion Time

After watching the video, ask the following questions to further teach and apply today’s lesson.

Minis/Littles Discussion Questions

  1. What did Job’s three friends say when they visited him? (told Job to say he was sorry for doing wrong things, said God was punishing Job for his sin)

  2. Who is greater: God or people? (God)

  3. What did Job learn in this Bible story? (Job learned that God is always good)

  4. Would God still be good if He didn’t heal Job and give him back everything he lost? (yes)

  5. How does Job remind us of Jesus? (Jesus is the only Person who never sinned, but He suffered to take the punishment for our sin)

  6. Who is God? (God is our Creator and King)

Bigs/Elementary Discussion Questions

Ask the following questions, leading discussion as suggested:

  1. Who thought that Job only loved God because of His blessings? (Satan, Job 1:11)

  2. Did Job curse God when he faced suffering? (No, Job 2:10)

  3. What did Job’s friends think caused Job’s suffering? (They thought Job was being punished for sin, Job 4:7-9)

  4. Was Job truly innocent of sin? (Guide kids to think about how everyone is born a sinner. Discuss with them the fact that only Jesus is truly without sin)

  5. Is suffering a result of God punishing sin? (Guide kids to discuss the nature of sin and how it has broken the world. Help them see that suffering is not always a direct result of our own sin. Remind them that those who trust in Jesus’ death and resurrection will not face punishment for sin, though our sin will still carry consequences for us and others)

  6. How is God good even when we face suffering? (Guide kids to think about the ways God can use difficult times to glorify Himself. Remind them that Jesus’ suffering purchased our freedom from sin. Help them see that because we were created to glorify Him, His glory is our good)
