Sunday Story Time

Each Sunday we have a story time, discussion time, worship time, and close by recapping the lesson.

Story Time

Start by reading this week’s lesson to your children, or by having them read it to you. Then watch this week’s lesson video.

Read the Passage: Genesis 39-41 (ESV)

If you’re looking for the story in one of the many incredible children’s Bibles, check these out:

Watch the Video: Check out this morning’s lesson from Pastor Robin about the dreams of Joseph!

Discussion Time

After watching the video, ask the following questions to further teach and apply today’s lesson.

Minis/Littles Discussion Questions

Ask the following questions, leading discussion as suggested:

  1. Who helped the cupbearer, baker, and Pharaoh know what their dreams meant? (Joseph)

  2. What did Pharaoh see in his dreams? (thin and fat cows; thin and full stalks of grain)

  3. After the seven years of good harvest, what did Joseph say would happen? (Not much grain would grow and people would be hungry)

  4. Whom did Pharaoh put in charge of storing the grain for everyone? (Joseph)

  5. Is there anything God cannot do? (God can do all things)

Bigs/Elementary Discussion Questions

Ask the following questions, leading discussion as suggested:

  1. Why did Joseph go to prison? (Potiphar’s wife falsely accused Joseph of something, and Potiphar believed her, Gen. 39:16-19)

  2. Whose dreams did Joseph explain in prison? (the cupbearer’s and the baker’s, Gen. 40:5-19)

  3. When did the cupbearer remember Joseph? (two years later when Pharaoh needed dreams explained, Gen. 41:9-13)

  4. How did Joseph know what the different dreams meant? (Guide kids to discuss the fact that God gave Joseph the power to understand dreams. Remind kids that Joseph did not decide what the dreams meant, he merely explained what God revealed to him)

  5. How does God reveal things to us today? (Help kids see that, although God can communicate with us through dreams if He chooses, He has revealed everything we need to know about Him and the gospel through the Bible. God used different men over time to write down exactly what God wanted them to write. The Bible is God’s Word, and it is trustworthy)

  6. How do you think Joseph felt before and after the cupbearer told Pharaoh about him? (Guide kids to discuss the uncertainty Joseph may have felt. Remind them that, although he did not totally understand God’s plan, He trusted God to take care of him)

Worship Time

Let’s stand up, lift our voices, raise our hands - and SING!
