Bigs Discussion Questions

  1. What was your favorite part of today’s Bible story?

Exodus 35-40 In today’s Bible story, When Moses met with God on the mountain, God gave him many rules and laws. These rules showed the people what it looks like to be holy. God is holy and He wanted to be with His people, but God’s people could not obey His laws perfectly. One day, God met with Moses in the tabernacle. First, God gave rules about offerings. Offerings are gifts—like money, grain, or animals—that people give to God. Each kind of offering was special. When people wanted to praise God, they gave burnt offerings. God deserves our praise. When people wanted to thank God, they gave grain offerings. God deserves our thanks. When people wanted to celebrate God, they gave fellowship offerings. God deserves to be celebrated. When people wanted to say they were sorry for sin, they gave a sin offering. The priest gave an offering so the people could be forgiven. God wants us to turn away from sin and turn back to Him.

  2. What did you learn about God in today’s Bible story?

Everything about God is wonderful. Everything God does is right. Because God is so great, we worship Him. God is our Creator and King; He alone deserves our worship, and He alone gets to tell us how to worship Him.

  3. Name an offering you can give to God.
We no longer give animals or grain as offerings to God, but we still give money as an offering of worship. Now, we worship God by loving and obeying Him as we live to give Him glory.

  4. What is worship? Worship is celebrating the greatness of God.

Elementary Discussion Questions

  1. Why does God deserve our worship?

Guide kids to discuss the attributes of God that make Him, and only Him, worthy of worship. Help the kids focus on God’s power, love, kindness, holiness, and glory. Remind the kids of the wonderful things that God has done for us, such as creating us, giving us a beautiful world to enjoy, and making the way to be forgiven of sin. Help kids understand that God deserves worship both because of who He is—our Creator and King—and what He has done— demonstrated His love for us by sending Jesus.

  2. What are some ways we can worship God?

Allow the kids to suggest ways they can worship God. Encourage kids to think beyond common answers like singing at church or giving money to missions. Remind kids that everything we do for God’s glory is an act of worship. Guide them to understand that everything from trying your best at school, to honoring your parents, to enjoying your favorite hobby can all be worship when we do them to glorify God.

  3. What are some things that prevent you from worshiping God?

Encourage the kids to answer honestly. Be prepared with examples from your own life. Discuss the role our sinful desires play in leading us away from God and preventing us from living in ways that honor God—living instead for our own benefit and glory.
