Bigs Discussion Questions

  1. What was your favorite part of today’s Bible story?

Joshua 7-11 In today’s Bible story, Joshua was getting old so he gathered all of the Israelites. He had some important things to tell them. Joshua said, “Remember what God has done for you. When you were in battle, God fought for you! I want you to be strong. Do everything God told you to do. Do not disobey God, and do not turn away from God. Trust Him.” Joshua said, “God has never broken a promise to you.” Then Joshua reminded the people of everything God had done for them in the past: God had called Abraham and given him a son, Isaac. God had rescued the Israelites from the Egyptians. God had done so many great things for His people! Joshua said to the people, “Will you worship God or false gods? As for me and my family, we will worship the Lord.” The people replied, “We will not worship other gods! We know how much God has done for us, and we love Him!” The people remembered that God had helped them win battles against their enemies. They remembered how He protected them as they traveled. On that day, Joshua made an agreement with the people. He set up a large stone under an oak tree and said, “When you see this stone, remember that you promised to worship the Lord. God always keeps His promises.” Then Joshua sent the people back to their homes.

  2. What did you learn about God in today’s Bible story?

God always keeps His promises. Joshua reminded them that God is good, and they could trust God. God did good things for His people. Joshua set up a large stone under an oak tree to help the people remember their promise to obey God and worship only Him.

  3. Whom did God want the people to worship?

Joshua set up a large stone under an oak tree to help the people remember their promise to obey God and worship only Him.

  4. What is a miracle? A miracle is something God does that usually cannot be done.

Elementary Discussion Questions

  1. Why did Joshua remind the people to obey God?

Remind kids that Joshua was near death. He didn’t want the people to forget all God had done. He wanted the people to remember the miracles God performed and how God kept His promises.

  2. What would happen if the people disobeyed God and forgot about His covenant?

Lead kids to recall that God said He would no longer drive out the nations and the Israelites would lose the land God had given them. God would bring disaster upon the people if they broke His covenant. God would become angry.

  3. How can we obey God?

Prompt kids to discuss how obeying God instead of doing whatever seems good to us can be hard to do! We can only obey God by the power of the Holy Spirit, who lives within us after we put our faith in Jesus. He helps us understand and remember God’s Word, and He gives us power to love God and obey His commands.
