Elementary Discussion Questions
Did Judas really care about the poor? Why not? How can we love things more than God?
Remind kids that Judas wasn’t upset because the oil could have been sold to help the poor. Tell kids that he was upset because he loved money and wanted to use the oil to make money for himself. Explain that sometimes we can love things more than God because we fail to recognize how God is most valuable. Tell kids that sometimes we choose to make other things most important in our lives because we think they will make us most happy. Remind kids that God alone is the most valuable and that when we have Him we have everything.
Have you ever made a sacrifice for God? What was it?
Answers will vary. Discuss how there are many ways we can give to God to show that we love Him more than anything. Explain how we might sacrifice our time, money, or even a favorite toy. Encourage kids to remember that anything we give to God is never wasted because it is an act of worship.
Mary’s oil prepared Jesus for burial. Did Jesus stay buried in the tomb? Why not?
Help kids remember that Jesus did die and was buried in a tomb, but He rose again. Remind kids that unlike the sacrifices of the Old Testament, Jesus’ sacrifice defeated death and He came back to life. Encourage kids to remember that we are only saved through faith in Jesus and that when we believe in Him we receive eternal life with Him.
