Bigs Discussion Questions

  1. What was your favorite part of today’s Bible story?

2 Chronicles 36 In today’s Bible story, Josiah, the king of Judah, had three sons: Jehoahaz (jih HOH uh haz), Jehoiakim (jih HOY uh kim), and Zedekiah (ZED uh KIGH uh). Josiah had a grandson too. His name was Jehoiachin (jih HOY uh kin). Each of them had a turn at being king. None of them was good like King Josiah. After Josiah died, Jehoahaz became king. Jehoahaz was not king for very long. He did bad things that God did not like. So Jehoahaz’s brother Jehoiakim became king. Jehoiakim also did what was wrong. So Jehoiakim’s son Jehoiachin became king. Jehoiachin also did what was wrong. The king of Babylon made Jehoiachin’s uncle king. His name was Zedekiah. Zedekiah also did what was wrong. He led God’s people to do wrong things too. God loved His people so He sent prophets to talk to the people. The prophets said, “Stop sinning! Love and obey God!” But the people did not listen. It was time for God to punish the people of Judah for their sin. God allowed the king of Babylon and his armies to attack the people in Judah, and many of the people died. The king of Babylon took everything out of the Lord’s temple and burned the temple. The king of Babylon took the rest of the people to Babylon, and he made them work for him and his family. All of this happened just as God said it would.

  2. What did you learn about God in today’s Bible story?

God was right to punish His people because they sinned. But God still loved them. God even sent prophets to warn the people, but they ignored them. God loved His people, but He could not allow them to keep doing wrong. Sometimes we do bad things and refuse to obey, but God never stops loving us.

  3. Why were God’s people taken captive?
God loved His people, but He could not allow them to keep doing wrong. God allowed the king of Babylon to destroy Jerusalem and take the people captive.

  4. What makes people special?

People are special because God made us in His own image.

Elementary Discussion Questions

  1. Why did God send the prophets?

Discuss how the Lord loved His people and sent them many prophets. He wanted them to obey Him. He sent His prophets to warn the people to return to God. Lead kids to understand that God cared for His people and knew if they continued to worship idols they would be separated from Him forever.

  2. Would God have been loving if He ignored their sin? Why not?

Lead kids to understand that it is because God loved the people of Judah that He disciplined them through Babylon. Discuss how God would not be loving if He let His people die in their sin. Remind kids that God gave the people of Judah lots of chances to turn back to Him.

  3. Why didn’t God completely destroy the people of Judah?

Remind kids of God’s faithfulness and His truthfulness. God had promised Abraham that Jesus would come through his family. God also repeated the promise to King David. Help kids understand that God is patient and that He always keeps His word. Praise God for how we can always trust Him and believe in His Word.
