Ask the Questions

Bigs Discussion Questions

  1. What was your favorite part of today’s Bible story?

  2. What did you learn about God in today’s Bible story?

  3. What makes Jesus different from other people?

  4. How do we know God loves us? We can know that God loves us because He sent His Son, Jesus.

Elementary Discussion Questions

  1. Do you ever crave or really want something besides food or water? What is it?

Lead kids to consider how we can really want other things we think will satisfy us like having lots of friends, having a lot of cool stuff, being the best at sports or activities, having people say lots of nice things about us, and so on. Tell kids that not all desires are bad but if we want them more than Jesus then they can become idols. Remind kids that we were made to be most happy in Jesus.

  2. Why is Jesus better than water?

Explain that while we need water to survive, only Jesus can save us from our sins. Remind kids that while water helps us stay alive, Jesus gives us eternal life. Tell kids that Jesus gives us the Holy Spirit to live in us and be our Helper. Remind kids that wells can run dry and we can run out of water, but Jesus is forever.

  3. The woman at the well went and told others about Jesus. Who have you told about Jesus? Who can you tell about Jesus?

Answers will vary. Remind kids that God loves the whole world and that we are called to tell others about His love for them. Explain that we see God’s love for us in Jesus, who died for our sin. Encourage kids to share Jesus with others so they can experience God’s love in their lives and find new life in Christ.

Question 31: What do we believe by true faith?

Answer: We believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.

Question 32: What do justification and sanctification mean?

Answer: Justification means our declared righteousness before God. Sanctification means our gradual, growing righteousness.
