The Blessed Way of Jesus - Part 2 (Matthew 5:3-6)
Sermon Series: The Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7)
Sermon Title: The Blessed Way of Jesus (Part 2 of 3)
Sermon Text: Matthew 5:3-6
Big Idea: The blessed way of Jesus humbly loves God.
#1 Recognize your dependance on God (v3)
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:3)
Where in your life have you failed to recognize your dependance on God? Where are you relying on your own ambition to provide and strength to sustain rather than turning to and trusting in God?
How are you relying on your own effort to reconcile you to God?
#2 Respond by grieving over sin (v4)
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” (Matthew 5:4)
What sin in your life are you seeking to cover up and hide in the darkness rather than allowing the light to expose it so that you can grieve over it? What fear is driving you?
What sin in the world have you grown apathetic toward and refuse to recognize rather than grieving? Why is that?
#3 Recognize God’s authority over you (v5)
“Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.” (Matthew 5:5)
What area of your life are you holding back from God and not submitting to His authority?
Where in your life are you failing to trust God’s timing as you wait and trust God’s plan as you keep His way (Psalm 37:34)?
#4 Respond by pursuing God’s will in obedience with God’s Word (v6)
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.” (Matthew 5:6)
Where are you turning to satisfy your hunger, quench your thirst, and fulfill your deepest desires? How have they let you down and left you still hungry and thirsty?
