Announcing the Good News (Luke 1:26-38)

SERMON NOTES

Sermon Series: Good News of Great Joy

Sermon Title: Announcing the Good News

Sermon Text: Luke 1:26-38

1) Gabriel’s Announcement (v26-34)

To the world, Mary was an unknown girl from an unknown village, but not to God

  • God knew Mary, looking on her with favor

  • God was with Mary, sending His messenger to her

What would make this child unlike any other ever born would be his:

  • Divinity - as the Son of the Most High

  • Royalty - sitting on the throne of his ancestral father David

  • Authority - reigning over the house of Judah forever

2) Gabriel’s Answer (v35)

God would do this as:

  • His presence will come upon her

  • His power will overshadow her

3) Gabriel’s Assurance (v36-37)

Our faith in what God has promised to do is founded on what God has already done

4) Mary’s Acceptance (v38)

We wait for Christ’s promised return by:

  • Waiting with hope

  • Waiting with anticipation and expectation

  • Waiting in faithful obedience
