Passage: Ecclesiastes 9:13-10:20

Preacher: Ashley Herr

An Example of Wisdom (9:13-15)

The Value of Wisdom (9:16-18)

Wisdom is better than: physical strength (9:16a), political strength (9:17), and military strength (9:18a)

The Vulnerability of Wisdom (9:16-10:1)

What makes wisdom vulnerable is that is so easily dismissed (9:16a), so easily forgotten (9:16a), and the good it brings is so easily destroyed (9:18b-10:1)

When you value wisdom, allowing it to penetrate your heart (Proverbs 2:10), it impacts:

1. The way you live (10:2-4,8-11,15)

Wisdom: reorients your heart (10:2-3), strengthens your confidence (10:15), steadies your emotions (10:4), and sharpens your mind (10:8-11) - becoming more aware of the dangers that surround you, anticipating those dangers, avoiding those dangers, and taking the proper action

2. The way you speak (10:12-14)

Wisdom impacts both the quality of your words (10:12-13) and the quantity of your words (10:14)

3. The way you lead (10:16-20)

Immature leaders who don’t value wisdom are: selfish (10:16-17,19), negligent (10:18), and intimidating (10:20)

When you value this wisdom given to us by God, wisdom from above:

The way you live looks more like Jesus

The way you speak sounds more like Jesus

The way you lead resembles the love of Jesus
