“For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.”
- Habakkuk 2:14
Welcome to The Library
The Library is a collection of resources made available to our church family in order to help us know Jesus more and grow to be more like him. Some resources are made available for you to take and keep, others to read and return.
What We’re Reading
This section of the library highlights some of what our staff are currently reading. We read to learn, not merely to affirm. As a result, it is common for us to read outside our normal lane if you will, reading authors from various faith traditions and experiences. Each book on display in The Library in the “What We’re Reading” section will be made available for check-out once it is moved to the general catalog. Here’s a snapshot of who is reading what - and why.
What I’m reading…
Prayer in the Night by Tish Harrison Warren
Who’s reading it…
Pastor Ashley
Why I’m reading it…
Along with theological reading, I’m also reading something more geared toward spiritual formation, both for myself and for use later on in The Way. Tish’s book came highly recommended by a trusted professor. Her writing is captivatingly beautiful, and she writes from a season of loss and lament that I have been able to relate to in my own season of life.
What I’m reading…
Be Thou My Vision by Jonathan Gibson
Who’s reading it…
Pastor Ashley
Why I’m reading it…
I am tired, worn out, and in a season where I am in need of more structured and liturgical nature to my own personal time of prayer and worship. As I was beginning to use the Anglican Book of Common Prayer, I came across this incredible resource written by someone in a similar season with a similar need. It has been a great way to start my day with God.
Getting to Know God
In his book Knowing God, J.I. Packer asks, “For what higher, more exalted, and more compelling goal can there be than to know God?” If you would like to deepen your theological knowledge by learning more about god, we would love to recommend one of the following books.
Take a copy - it’s yours to keep!
Write in it. Underline what grabs your attention. Highlight what draws you closer to God. Mark the corner of the page you want to share with a friend. And I’d love to be that friend you share with! Grab a time for us to sit down, have a cop of coffee, and let’s talk about what we’re learning and how we’re growing!
Available resources for you to take and keep (clockwise from top left):
Life Together by Dietrich Bonhoeffer
The Light has Come: An Exposition of the Fourth Gospel by Lesslie Newbigin
Delighting in the Trinity: An Introduction to the Christian Faith by Michael Reeves
Gentle and Lowly: The Heart of Christ for Sinners and Sufferers by Dane Ortlund
Creation Regained: Biblical Basics for a Reformational Worldview by Albert Wolters
Family Ministry
Family is all about our entire church family caring for and ministering to the families in our church.
We want to share some of what we have been reading that has impacted our vision for family ministry and been helpful in putting together a strategy for helping the next generation know Jesus and grow to be like Jesus.
Feel free to take a copy home to read - we just ask that you bring it back when you’re done so that someone else can learn from these incredible resources as well.
