Advent: A Season of Longing
Christmas is supposed to be most wonderful time of the year.
But not this year.
Rather than waiting in joy with excitement for the next party or family gathering, this year feels like a season of darkness and endless waiting. We’re all waiting, longing for something better to come, anticipating its arrival.
This sense of longing captures the essence of the Advent season. Rather than a season of celebration, Advent is a season of reflection and of anticipation as we look back, reflecting on Christ’s incarnation in His first advent and look forward, anticipating His return in His second advent.
This Advent season will be unlike any other we have experienced. I pray that this longing focuses our hearts on Jesus in a unique and special way as we begin our verse-by-verse journey through the Gospel of Matthew.
Matthew wrote his gospel in order to show that every page of the Old Testament Scriptures spoken by God point to Jesus and to reveal that every promise ever made by God is fulfilled in Jesus.
We’re going to begin this journey with a mini-series called, “God With Us”, as we look at the first four chapters that reveal to us who Jesus is, why Jesus came, and what that means for us.
Invite a friend to join us either online or in-person this Sunday at Redemption!
Love you guys!
