Becca Wells: Hi From Becca - November Update
November is always one of my favorite months. Fall leaves, my birthday, Thanksgiving...what's not to like? The months have been flying by and while November came with it's own set of challenges it was filled with growth, friends, and you guessed it...lots of soccer.
Fall Season Wrap Up
The week before Thanksgiving marked our final week of the fall season with our middle school and high school girls teams. We closed the last two practices with a scrimmage against the boys' team, a small-sided tournament, and a "last hoorah" pizza party after practice. The fall looked nothing like I imagined and brought with it a fair amount of disappointments and challenges, but in all honesty it was still a blast. Our girls stuck with it and it was seriously such a joy to get to watch them grow as players, for me to be able to still grow as a coach, and to just get to do life with them. Looking forward to what the winter will hold!
Recruiting for SA
In addition to coaching the girls and helping with soccer ministry in the neighborhoods, I'm also getting to help a lot with the planning and recruiting for the Summer Academy program. This has looked like lots of emails with college coaches, phone calls with potential players, and even a few meetings with some teams to share with them about the Summer Academy and the opportunity that the Chicago Eagles offers for college soccer players to come and grow as soccer player and Christ-follower, to learn more about sports ministry in both a local and global context, and to engage with kids by coaching soccer camps. I've loved getting to be a part of this side of what we do because the Summer Academy seriously changed my life, so it's very exciting to get to share with teams and players about this opportunity. Check out our Summer Academy video below! Also, if you have any college players you think would be a good fit for this program feel free to send them our way!
Fall Fun and Other Shenanigans
November included some other really fun highlights. There's been the continuous Harry Potter Monday night movie marathon.. a birthday adventure to Scooby's Hot Dogs...a surprise visit home to celebrate my birthday with my sister (since, well, it was her birthday too)...staff worship night... Friendsgiving...Lady Eagles brunch, and lots of other really solid times with people here. In a season that often encourages us to slow down and reflect on all that we're thankful for, I definitely have to say that God has brought some pretty awesome people into my life and it has been really special to get to do life with them over the past few months.
In addition to the staff, family, and friends that I get to do life with regularly, I am also extremely thank for you! Thank you so much for your continued support this year and for joining me in all that the Lord is doing here in West Chicago. Seriously, your support, prayers, and encouragement mean so much to me!
Prayer Requests:
Praise for another month of safety and good health for our players
Praise for less intense and less frequent migraines
Praise for safe travels and time with family for Thanksgiving
Be praying for winter training with new restrictions (currently planning to train outside for as long as possible)
Pray for our players as they struggle with E-Learning, and that we as their coaches will be creative in finding ways to help
Pray for the colleges and players we will be connecting with over the next several months about the Summer Academy and that the Lord would give them wisdom on how to spend their summer
