Discussion Time

Minis/Littles Discussion Questions
Ask the following questions, leading discussion as suggested:
Whom did Jacob stay with and work for? (his uncle Laban)
Whom did Jacob love and want to marry? (Rachel)
Whom did Laban trick Jacob into marrying? (Leah)
Whom did Jacob trick in last week’s Bible story? (his father, Isaac)
How many sons did Jacob have? (12)
What did Jacob do when God told him to go home? (He obeyed.)
Does God keep His promises? (God always keeps His promises.)
Bigs/Elementary Discussion Questions
Ask the following questions, leading discussion as suggested:
Which woman did Jacob want to marry? (Rachel, Laban’s younger daughter; Gen. 29:18)
Why did Laban trick Jacob? (He wanted Leah to marry before Rachel because Rachel was younger than Leah, Gen. 29:26)
How many sons did Jacob have? (twelve: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Dan, Naphtali, Gad, Asher, Issachar, Zebulun, Joseph, and Benjamin; Gen. 35:23-26)
God had compassion on Leah when Jacob did not love her. What does this show us about God? (Guide kids to discuss the fact that God shows mercy and love even to those the world does not value. Remind kids that all people are made in God’s image. Point out that Leah’s son Judah would be the one through whom God sent Jesus many years later)
How do we know that God loves us? (Guide kids to see that God demonstrated His great love for us by sending Jesus. God knew that we could not earn salvation, so He sent Jesus to save us and give salvation to all those who believe in the gospel)
What are ways we can show love to people when they feel lonely, misunderstood, or unloved? (Guide kids to discuss the importance of being kind to others. Help them think of ways to serve others and remind them that sharing the gospel is a great way to show you care about someone else)
