God Looks at the Heart
This week’s Redemption Kids lesson is about the story of Joshua and Caleb.
Sunday Story Time
Each Sunday we have a story time, discussion time, worship time, and close by recapping the lesson.
Story Time
Start by reading this week’s lesson to your children, or by having them read it to you. Then watch this week’s lesson video.
Read the Passage: 1 Samuel 16 (ESV)
Watch the Video: Check out this morning’s lesson from Pastor Robin about how God looks at us!
Discussion Time
After watching the video, ask the following questions to further teach and apply today’s lesson.
Minis/Littles Discussion Questions
Ask the following questions, leading discussion as suggested:
What were God’s people looking for next? (a king)
Did the people need a king? (no, because they had God as their king)
Who is David’s father? (Jesse)
Why did Jesse say his other sons could be king and not David? (because the other sons of Jesse looked like a king in appearance)
Why did God pick David to the next king? (his heart was like God’s heart)
Bigs/Elementary Discussion Questions
Ask the following questions, leading discussion as suggested:
God's people desired a king, but who was already their King? (God)
Why did God want David to be the next king even though David did not look like a king? (God cares about the heart, about how we think, act, and WHY we do certain things. David was a man after God’s heart - it doesn’t matter what you look like).
Why is it important to do things for God for the right reasons? (God cares about why we do the things we do. He doesn’t want robot worshippers, but He wants people that truly love God!)
Why is it important to remind ourselves that God looks at the heart and not our appearance? (the culture we live in makes it all about how you look and there is a lot of pressure to look a certain way sometimes. As Christians, we don’t need to pressured to look a certain way because what is important to God is not the outside, but the inside. God cares about our thoughts and our deeds equally. When we do share, care, and worship God out of love, we honor God).
Worship Time (NEW SONGS!)
Let’s stand up, lift our voices, raise our hands - and SING!
