Sunday Story Time

Each Sunday we have a story time, discussion time, worship time, and close by recapping the lesson.

Story Time

Start by reading this week’s lesson to your children, or by having them read it to you. Then watch this week’s lesson video.

Read the Passage: Isaiah 41:10 (ESV)

Watch the Video: Check out this morning’s lesson from Pastor Robin about why we do not need to be afraid!

Discussion Time

After watching the video, ask the following questions to further teach and apply today’s lesson.

Minis/Littles Discussion Questions

Ask the following questions, leading discussion as suggested:

  1. Do you get afraid at times? (its okay, everyone does!)

  2. What was Jesus doing on the boat when the storm was happening? (sleeping)

  3. Do you think Jesus was afraid of the storm? (no)

  4. What should we do if we get afraid? (ask God to help us!)

  5. Why don’t we have to be afraid? (God is with us!)

Bigs/Elementary Discussion Questions

Ask the following questions, leading discussion as suggested:

  1. What do people do when they get afraid? (lead the kids into a discussion where they list what they do when they get afraid. Ask them if they think this is the best way to deal with fear?)

  2. Why was it important that we knew Jesus was asleep in the boat when the disciples thought they were going to die because of the storm? (Jesus sleeping meant that he was not afraid or worried. If we are really afraid, it is hard for us to sleep. Jesus was not afraid because he has authority over the wind and the seas).

  3. Why is it important to go to God when fear comes? (explain to the kids the difference between healthy fear and unhealthy fear. healthy fear prevents us from causing harm to ourselves (ex: understanding not to cross the road); unhealthy fear prevents us from doing what God wants us to do (ex: being afraid of all people hinders us from loving our neighbors).

  4. Why don’t we have to be afraid? (if we truly trust God, we know that He always has our back! No matter where/what/how/who/when - God is always with us if we believe in Him! Lead the discussion where the question - do you believe in Him is asked).
