What was your favorite part of today’s Bible story?
Judges 13-16 In today’s Bible story, God’s people were being ruled by the Philistines. One day, the angel of the Lord spoke to two of God’s people. He said that they were going to have a son who would save Israel from the Philistines. God had special instructions for their son: He should never cut his hair. The woman had a baby, and she named him Samson. God made Samson very strong. When Samson grew up, he met a woman named Delilah. Samson fell in love with her. The Philistine leaders wanted to know why Samson was so strong, so they asked Delilah to help them find out. Delilah asked Samson, “Why are you so strong?” Samson said, “If you tie me up, I will be weak.” But that was not true. Delilah tied up Samson. When she said, “Samson! The Philistines are here to get you!” Samson broke free. Delilah asked Samson again, “Why are you so strong?” Samson did told Delilah, “If you weave my hair into a loom, I will be weak.” But that was not true. Delilah wove Samson’s hair into a loom. When she said, “Samson! The Philistines are here to get you!” Samson broke free. Delilah begged Samson to tell her the truth, so Samson did: “If you cut my hair, I will be weak.” When Samson was sleeping, a Philistine man came and cut his hair. Delilah woke up Samson. “Samson!” she said, “The Philistines are here to get you!” But Samson was not strong anymore. The Philistines grabbed him and took him away in chains. Over time, Samson’s hair began to grow back. One day, the Philistines made. Samson stand between two columns in their temple. Samson cried out to God, and God made Samson strong again. Samson pushed on the columns, and the temple fell down. Samson and everyone in the temple died, but Samson had saved God’s people from the Philistines.

Elementary Discussion Questions
What did the angel tell Samson’s mother and father?
Guide kids to recall that an angel of the Lord visited Samson’s parents. The angel told them that they would have a son that would help rescue the Israelites from the Philistines. The angel gave very clear instructions: don’t ever cut his hair.
How did Samson’s sin lead to his death?
Discuss the consequences of Samson’s sin. Samson was supposed to be a Nazarite, someone set apart for special devotion to God. Samson’s hair was a symbol of his vows, but in many ways, Samson ignored God’s law in favor of doing whatever he wanted. Samson’s sinful desires led him to love Delilah, a woman who cared about money, not Samson. When Samson told her about his Nazarite vow, it showed he loved her more than God, and so God took his strength, allowing him to be captured.
How did God use Samson’s death to save Israel?
Point out that after being captured, Samson prayed that God would give him strength just one more time. God strengthened Samson once more. When Samson pushed down the columns of the temple, it collapsed on the Philistines as well as Samson. God used Samson’s death to deliver the Israelites from the Philistines.

Question 31: What do we believe by true faith?
Answer: We believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
