Bigs Discussion Questions

  1. What was your favorite part of today’s Bible story?

2 Samuel 6-7 In today’s Bible story, God had chosen David to be the next king of Israel. As king, David lived in a beautiful palace. One day, David was talking with Nathan the prophet. “I live in a nice palace,” David said, “but the ark of God sits inside a tent!” Nathan said, “God is with you. Do what you want!” But God did not want David to do whatever he wanted. That night, God talked to Nathan. This is what God wanted Nathan to say to David: “David, are you going to build a house for Me to live in? I brought My people out of Egypt. The whole time I have been with them, My house has been a tent. Did I ever ask anyone to build a temple for Me? “You used to be a shepherd, but I made you a king. I helped you win battles. There is no more fighting. When you die, one of your sons will be king. He will be a strong king. He will build a house for Me. I will love him, and I will never leave him. When your son dies, his son will be king. The king will always be someone in your family.” Nathan told David everything God said. Even though David wanted to build a temple for God, David listened to God and obeyed Him. David prayed: “God, I do not deserve anything You have done for me, and You promise to do so much more! You are so great! There is no one like You!

Elementary Discussion Questions

  1. What did David want to build for God?

Review how David wanted to build a temple for God, but God told David no. God said that He didn’t need a temple. He was always with the people of Israel, and He would always be with them. God reminded David of all the things He had provided without having a beautiful temple. God doesn’t need a temple to provide for His people. (Option: Read 2 Sam. 7:11-16.)

  2. Why did David pray to God?

Remind kids that David praised and thanked God for all the things God had provided. David acknowledged God’s greatness and power. David realized that he didn’t deserve any of the things that God had given him. David remembered God’s faithfulness to Israel. We can pray to God like David. We can thank Him for His greatness, power, and provision for our lives. (Option: Read 2 Sam. 7:18-24.)

  3. How do we know God will keep His promises?

Encourage kids to remember that God always keeps His promises because He is faithful. God’s promises to David came true through Jesus. Jesus is the King of kings who will reign forever just as God said. God always keeps His promises.(Option: ead 2 Sam. 7:25-29.)
