Bigs Discussion Questions

  1. What was your favorite part of today’s Bible story?

Daniel 5 In today’s Bible story, the king of Babylon had a big party and invited lots of friends. The guests drank from special cups. But the special cups were not for drinking; they were for worshiping God. The king and his friends did what was wrong. All of a sudden, a hand appeared. The fingers started to write something on the wall: a message for the king. The king was scared! He read the message, but he did not know what it meant. The queen remembered that Daniel was wise. Daniel came to the palace and looked at the message. He knew what it was. It was a message from God. Daniel read four words: MENE (MEE nih), MENE, TEKEL (TEK uhl), PARSIN (PAHR sin). Each word had a special meaning. The king was not going to be king anymore. God was not happy with the king. That night, God’s message came true. A man named Darius (duh RIGH uhs) became the new king.

  2. What did you learn about God in today’s Bible story?

No one is better than God. God is King over the whole universe. God showed His authority when He made a hand appear and write on the wall. God made His warning come true that night so people would know that God is the King of kings.

  3. Who could understand the message on the wall?
Only God’s servant Daniel could read the message so the king of Babylon would know it came from the one true God.

  4. Where is God?

God is everywhere and is always with us.

Elementary Discussion Questions

  1. How did Belshazzar act proudly?

Remind kids that Belshazzar thought he was so great and that he got his kingdom because of his great power. Remind kids that he also misused the special temple cups that were only supposed to be used to serve God. Help kids understand that Belshazzar also worshiped idols and thought he didn’t need God.

  2. How was God with Daniel?

Lead kids to understand that God was with Daniel because God made Daniel wise, strong, and able to understand God’s message. Help kids learn that Daniel’s understanding came from God giving it to him. Encourage kids to remember that through Jesus, God is with us too.

  3. Does having pride really make one great? Why not?

Encourage kids to remember that only God is great. Remind kids that we are sinners and that even our best efforts are stained with sin. Help kids understand that pride is a sin because it puts us against God as we think we do not need God. Encourage kids to remember how Jesus showed humility by dying for us and that we can follow His example as we put others before ourselves. Lead kids to understand that in God’s kingdom the humble will be exalted.
