Bigs Discussion Questions
What was your favorite part of today’s Bible story?
Isaiah 7 In today’s Bible story, the king of Judah was named Ahaz (AY haz). He was not a good king. He made wrong choices. King Ahaz worshiped idols—people and things that are not the one true God. One day, King Ahaz heard that the kings of Israel and Syria were going to attack one of his cities. Ahaz was afraid! But Ahaz didn’t need to be afraid. A long time ago, God promised that He would be with His people. God always keeps His promises! God sent the prophet Isaiah to talk to King Ahaz. Isaiah said, “Listen and be quiet. Trust God. He will take care of you.” Then Isaiah said, “God is in control of everything.” This was good news for Ahaz, but how could he be sure this was true? God’s words are always true! Isaiah spoke God’s words: “Don’t you believe Me? I’m going to protect you.” God was going to give a sign to show that He was telling the truth. Isaiah said, “A young, unmarried girl will have a baby. She will name the baby Immanuel.” Isaiah said that Ahaz would be safe from the other kings soon. Isaiah said, “But, God’s judgment is coming. He will punish you and the people of Judah for your sin.”

Elementary Discussion Questions
Why can we trust God even when we are afraid?
Remind kids that the Bible teaches us that fear is a natural feeling humans have. But we should not let our fear rule our hearts. Encourage kids to remember all the ways God can be trusted such as His goodness, truthfulness, forgiveness, grace, and mercy. Help kids remember that when they are afraid that they can choose to trust in God, knowing He is with them.
How do all of God’s promises come true in Jesus?
Remind kids that God has given lots of promises in the Bible, but that all of them come true in Jesus because Jesus is the greatest promise. Help kids understand that when God promises that He loves us, we see His love for us in Jesus’ death, or when God promised that He would give us peace, we only can have peace through Jesus. Lead kids to see how each promise is tied directly to what Jesus has done for us.
How can we share God’s promises with others?
Encourage kids to remember that God’s promises are for all those who believe in Jesus as their Savior. Challenge kids to think of ways they can tell others about Jesus and how through Jesus God promises to always be with us.
