What are the stories called that Jesus used to teach about God’s Kingdom?
What did Jesus teach when He was on earth? Jesus taught about God and His kingdom.
Elementary Discussion Questions
Have you ever had to give up something to follow Jesus? What was it?
Answers will vary. Discuss how God calls us all to give up trusting in works to save us, following the ways of the world, and our old way of life. Lead kids to think about how following Jesus may also mean we have to give up comforts, popularity, or wealth.
Many people did not understand Jesus’ parables. What can we do if we don’t understand something from God’s Word?
Answers will vary. Lead kids to understand that it is OK to not always understand but that we can have hearts that still seek to know truth. Remind kids that one reason people did not understand Jesus’ parables is because they were not really seeking to know what is true. Encourage kids to ask God for a heart that wants to know Him and for the Holy Spirit to give them understanding.
How can you be a part of growing the kingdom of God?
Answers will vary. Explain that every Christian is commanded to live for the kingdom of God. Tell kids that we can share the gospel with others, help the poor, give our money, pray for others, endure suffering with joy, invite people to church, etc. Encourage kids to seek ways they can take part in God’s kingdom growth.

Big Picture Question: What did Jesus teach when He was on earth? Jesus taught about God and His kingdom.
Big Idea: While we wait for Jesus to come back and set up His kingdom, we obey Him and tell others about King Jesus, who rescues sinners.
