Sermon Notes

Sermon Series: Advent - In the Waiting

Sermon Title: God in the Waiting

Passage: Luke 1:5-25

Preacher: Ashley herr

1. Matthew States His Claim (v1a)

Jesus is the Christ

2. Matthew Supports His Claim (v1)

Jesus is the Christ because he is the promised son of David (2 Samuel 7:12-16), son of Abraham (Genesis 12:1-3, 22:17-18)

3. Matthew Validates His Claim (v2-17)

Thereby showing us:

  1. God is faithful to fulfill His promises in spite of your unfaithfulness

  2. God is faithful to fulfill His promises through you

  3. God is faithful to fulfill His promises to you

God has promised:

  1. He will never leave you or forsake you

  2. Nothing will separate you from the love of God

  3. Sin and death no longer have a hold on you

  4. Jesus will return!

Reflection

Rather than dwelling on unmet promises God did not make, reflect on these promises God has made by reading them in Scripture:

  1. Hebrews 13:5, Matthew 28:20

  2. Romans 8:38-39

  3. Romans 6

  4. Revelation 21:1-6
