Sermon Series: Acts - Our Story, Our Mission
Sermon Title: Devoted to Christ
Passage: Acts 21:27 - 22:29
Preacher: Robin Philip
1.Falsely Accused and Seized (21:27–36)
Paul is not suffering because he did wrong. He is suffering because he was devoted to Christ.
Paul isn’t against the Jewish people, or the law, or the temple, he was proclaiming there is someone greater than all of those things, proclaiming their fulfillment in Christ.
“If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. Matthew 16:24-25
When you decide to follow Jesus, from that day forward, you welcome opposition, criticism, and being misunderstood.
Expect to be misunderstood if you follow Christ—because Christ was misunderstood.
Expect to be criticized—because Jesus was criticized.
Expect faithfulness to cost you something real—because it cost Jesus everything.
When obedience to Christ costs you something real, what will you hold onto?
2. Bold Witness in the Chaos (21:37–22:21)
This is what we see in Paul’s testimony:
His past (22:1–5): zealous, religious, opposed to Jesus
His encounter with Christ (22:6–11): undeniable, transforming
His calling (22:12–21): sent by God to proclaim Christ
Does your life today look like you’ve been commissioned by Jesus?
3. Delivered Through Providence (22:22–29)
God’s providence is not ultimately found in favorable circumstances. Because one day every earthly protection runs out. One day every system fails. One day every life ends. So where is our true providence? In Jesus Christ.
What if God does not spare your comfort?
What if he does not spare your reputation?
What if he does not spare your life?
Will Christ still be enough?
