What was your favorite part of today’s Bible story?
What did you learn about God in today’s Bible story?
What did the shepherds do after they saw Baby Jesus?
What did Jesus do to save us? Jesus died on the cross and rose from the dead.
Elementary Discussion Questions
Like the shepherds who told people that the angel’s words were true, what is one thing we can tell others about Jesus’ birth?
Prompt kids to think of examples of obedience in the story. Guide kids to discuss how Jesus’ birth showed that He came to save people. Discuss how Jesus was humble and came to save anyone who believes in Him. Encourage kids that telling others about Jesus is a way that we can obey God and worship Him for all that He has done for us.
Why do you think God had the angels tell the shepherds about Jesus’ birth instead of telling important religious leaders?
Encourage kids to remember that Jesus came for all people, regardless of how important they may be. Lead kids to discuss how we can never be “good enough” to pay for our sin. Tell kids that the shepherds were not very important people in the eyes of the world, but they received the news of Jesus’ birth with joy and went and told others.
Why was Jesus not an ordinary baby?
Remind kids that God is three Persons and that God’s Son, Jesus, is the second Person of the Trinity. Explain that Jesus was born on earth as a man, but He has always existed as God. Discuss how Jesus is fully God and fully man. Tell kids that because Jesus is fully God and fully man, only He could be the perfect sacrifice for our sin.

Answer: Christ died willingly in our place to deliver us from the power and penalty of sin and bring us back to God.
