Ask the Questions

Bigs Discussion Questions

  1. What was your favorite part of today’s Bible story?

  2. What did you learn about God in today’s Bible story?

  3. Why did Mary and Joseph bring Baby Jesus to the temple?

  4. What did Jesus do to save us? Jesus died on the cross and rose from the dead.

Elementary Discussion Questions

  1. What are some ways we can learn from the lives of Simeon and Anna?

Remind kids that both Simeon and Anna trusted God’s Word. Discuss how they put their hope in God’s Word by believing it would come true. Discuss how they both loved God and lived their lives in worship of Him. Explain how Anna served God in the temple and went and told people about Jesus.

  2. What did Simeon and Anna do when they saw Jesus? Why did they do this?

Prompt kids to discuss how Simeon and Anna both thanked God and praised Him. Remind kids that they praised God because not only had He kept His promise, but now He had provided a way for them to be saved from their sins. Encourage kids to think about how happy they must have been to see their Savior with their own eyes.

  3. If Jesus never sinned, why did Mary and Joseph offer sacrifices to God?

Help kids understand that while Jesus never sinned, Mary and Joseph desired to obey God and keep His law. Tell kids that God told His people to set apart the firstborn male to Him and that Mary and Joseph dedicated Jesus to the Lord through their sacrifices. Explain that Jesus followed God’s law perfectly and was our perfect sacrifice.
